Get Involved
Do you want to be involved in Project Florence?
Following the close of the hugely successful Operation Nightingale excavation on Salisbury Plain, Project Florence is offering you the chance to get involved in the next steps of the project.
Volunteering opportunities will be taking place throughout autumn and winter and will include:
- Wet sieving environmental samples
- Sorting and conserving Anglo-Saxon human remains
- Washing and identifying flints and pottery
- Designing an exhibition and leaflet about the excavation
Join In
Regular volunteering sessions will be held on Mondays and Tuesdays at various times. Anyone over 16 years old is welcome but spaces in each session are limited, so please contact Laura Joyner (details below) if you wish to attend.
Find out about the work we have done so far on the Project Florence blog.
Volunteers are welcome to come along to as many or as few sessions as you are able to. All sessions will be held at the Wessex Archaeology Offices, Portway House, Old Sarum Park, Salisbury SP4 6EB (http://www.wessexarch.co.uk/). Parking is available at the offices. If you are attending an afternoon session please go to the main reception, if you are attending an evening session please follow the building to the far end from the entrance to the car park, turn right and ring the doorbell in the side porch.
Please note that I am able to offer travel expenses for volunteer sessions. I will be able to offer up to £5 per person per session, paid in arrears, and will require proof of travel costs.
