Wessex Archaeology were pleased to attend a preview of the exhibition and facilities at the new Stonehenge visitor centre, which took place on Tuesday 17th December, when the new £27 million visitor centre was formally opened by Simon Thurley, Chief executive of English Heritage in front of over 100 attendees.

The visitor centre, located at Airman’s Corner, opens to the public from the 18th December in time for the winter solstice this weekend. The old visitor centre will now be closed and taken down, helping to restore the landscape around the monument. Part of this work has already taken place with the removal of the A344 earlier this year under the archaeological supervision of Wessex Archaeology.
