Geoservices Training Seminar

2166 Paul Baggaley, Louise Tizzard and Victoria Cooper

Last week Wessex Archaeology Geoservices team were invited by Victoria Cooper, Senior Marine Heritage Consultant at Royal HaskoningDHV, to provide a training seminar at their London office. The seminar aimed to provide a jargon busting overview of the geophysical and geomatic techniques and best practice for their application in managing risk during project development.

A presentation by Dr Paul Baggaley on terrestrial geophysics, UAVs and recording techniques was followed by a presentation by Dr Louise Tizzard on marine geophysical techniques. Geoarchaeology techniques and the application and usefulness of deposits modelling in the terrestrial, intertidal and marine environments were also presented. Lucy Learmonth, Terrestrial Geophysics Manager, was also on hand to answer questions. Lunch provided the opportunity for further discussion and the seminar proved a great success.

Victoria Cooper said that “…the presentations were of real benefit to the Energy & Infrastructure Consenting team here at Royal HaskoningDHV. In the process of delivering impact assessment we are commonly faced with a variety of potential options for geophysical survey and the overview from Wessex Archaeology provided us a real opportunity to understand the most up to date technology and its application to heritage assessment".
