Bath Vale Works
Wheel pit, Bath Vale Works
The archaeological monitoring of a new housing development at Congleton in Cheshire has revealed the remains of two wheel pits from a demolished 19th century cotton and silk mill.
The results have provided a new understanding of the development of the works, which appears to have undergone a significant period of expansion in the early 19th century. The quality of site recording has been greatly enhanced by the use of the new range of Viva SmartRover instruments by Leica, that are now standard issue throughout the company.
