ExpertiseManager Coastal & Marine
I joined the Coastal & Marine team at Wessex Archaeology in 2010 based in Salisbury. I am an experienced archaeological diver and Project Manager and work on a very broad range of development projects from ports and harbours, aggregate extraction and offshore wind farms to nuclear power stations. My notable major project work includes the maritime archaeology for London Gateway Port to publication stage (London Gateway: Maritime Archaeology in the Thames Estuary, 2012), investigations on wrecked aircraft and vessels for a number of development projects, including two aircraft recoveries from marine contexts and the development of new initiatives such as the Marine Antiquities Scheme.
It is also my job to manage the Wessex Archaeology dive team in English waters and I have managed our diving services contract for Historic England since 2012. This work requires the assessment and condition survey of many protected and newly found wrecks.
In addition, I have compiled guidance on the marine historic environment for industry, firstly in respect of offshore wind farm construction (Protocol for Archaeological Discoveries: Offshore Renewables Projects, 2010, 2014) on behalf of The Crown Estate and Port and Harbour Development (The Assessment and Management of Marine Archaeology in Port and Harbour Development, 2016) on behalf of Historic England.
