Interactive Archaeology Workshops
Archaeology is a cross-curricula subject which can do as much to enhance learning as it can to excite curiosity and interest. Our Community and Education team deliver hands-on workshops in the classroom using real artefacts, replicas and activities to support a range of historical topics. Our Community and Education team is run by Rachel Brown who is a qualified history teacher.

Workshops are typically linked to the history National Curriculum but can be adapted for other subject areas if required. The most popular topic covered is an introduction to archaeology, which looks at what archaeology is and how we use it to build up a picture of what happened in the past. We cover all KS1 and KS2 history topics and can run specific sessions for KS3, KS4 and KS5.

Our flexible approach enables us to offer workshops to suit each school. To discuss the ways in which we can work with you please contact our Community & Education Officer

Loan Boxes
Our period-themed loan boxes enhance classroom learning with a selection of real artefacts and replica materials. Each box comes with a teachers’ guide and some suggested classroom activities.

Loan boxes are available for the small fee of £20 +VAT per two-week period. Boxes must be collected from (and returned to) the WA head office in Salisbury and a £25 deposit is also required for each box. Themes currently available include Stone Age, Roman, Medieval and Victorian, although we would be happy to discuss the development of further themed boxes with you.

Work Experience Placements

We offer work experience placements for local GCSE and A-Level students based out of our Salisbury and Sheffield offices, which offer the chance to experience working within a professional archaeological unit. Students will be based primarily in our offices, working with specialists in the Finds, Environmental and Education departments and may be able to take part in a site visit depending on the nature of the work being undertaken at the time.
