I was lucky enough to spend a week of work experience with Wessex Archaeology’s Graphics team, based at their Salisbury office.

My work experience exceeded my expectations. The team has a diverse knowledge and all were willing to help me explore archaeological illustration.

I was introduced to a wide range of software used in this field. I also was taught finds drawing techniques which was a new and interesting experience for me.

I was able to draw a unique Iron Age artefact. This was a carved comb important to our understanding of human representations in the Iron Age. I also found an interest in drawing flint – the team even brought in a flint specialist to oversee my drawings and help me understand the history and techniques behind these artefacts, including how markings on flint show human activity.

It was inspiring to be around the creative and passionate team at Wessex archaeology.
