Project Florence Family Fun Day
Festival of British Archaeology
Saturday 21st July 2012
10am to 4pm
Salisbury Plain Training Area, access via event minibuses only
The event will give locals in the surrounding area the opportunity to see the army excavation of an Anglo-Saxon burial site in action. This excavation is being run as part of Operation Nightingale, a rehabilitation programme for soldiers wouned in Afghanistan. Visitors can get involved in some of the activities, particularly examining and recording finds. They will be a range of hands-on activities suitable for the whole family.
The event is being organised by Wessex Archaeology's Project Florence, a Heritage Lottery Project, which aims to help locals found out about their heritage in South Wiltshire. You can find out more about both projects on the Project Florence/Operation Nightingale blog.
