Vacancy: Business Manager - Coastal and Marine

Wessex Archaeology is seeking to appoint a Business Manager to join its Coastal and Marine team.
WA Coastal and Marine is a leading provider of archaeological services to marine developers and public authorities, encompassing a wide range of desk-based research, archaeological diving, marine geophysics, geoarchaeological investigations, and learning and access for schools and communities.
It is an exciting time for us, with both increasing recognition of the value of the sea in delivering the UK’s needs for energy, trade and resources, and the emergence of new frameworks for managing our coasts and seas. Wessex Archaeology is playing a key role in enabling marine development whilst identifying, safeguarding and increasing awareness of the most important elements of our marine heritage.
This is a new post, intended to contribute to the achievement of Company objectives by:
- enabling and co-ordinating the successful and timely delivery of WA Coastal and Marine services, documentation, datasets and other deliverables;
- organising, implementing and monitoring the internal functions of WA Coastal and Marine within the Company;
Wessex Archaeology was set up in 1979 and is a charity with educational objectives, funded primarily by projects for a wide range of public and private clients. We have 130 permanent staff at our offices in Salisbury and Maidstone, including 24 staff in our Coastal and Marine team.
Education to degree level in an appropriate subject, previous management experience and a full UK Driving Licence are essential. Membership of an appropriate professional body, experience of working in marine industry, and/or an understanding of archaeological practice in the UK are desirable.
The post will be based at Wessex Archaeology’s Head Office, Portway House, Old Sarum Park, Salisbury, Wiltshire, SP4 6EB. The post is largely office-based but some flexibility will be required, to include staying away if necessary. If required to work away from Head Office, transport to/from Portway House and overnight accommodation will be provided.
