“Scan to BIM” is a process by which laser scan survey data is converted into a Building Information Model (BIM) ready model. This involves the creation of a 3D model of a building, representing its geometry with parametric objects. BIM-ready models are a great planning and design tool, and can ultimately form the basis of an entire renovation project.

Wessex Archaeology’s in-house team of built heritage experts can use methods such as laser scanning, photogrammetry and UAV surveys to record a building, and then use this data to construct a BIM ready model. We can also undertake historic building recording, and add historic information to a client’s BIM model. This includes information which is important for planning consent, and thus vital when designing or planning renovations.
