At the end of last month, our much-loved and highly respected colleague, Richard O’Neill, passed away.
Richard has been a familiar face to many on archaeological sites across Yorkshire for the last 30 years and joined Wessex Archaeology in 2009. He played a pivotal role in successfully establishing our Sheffield office and, most recently, led our northern field team on projects including HS2.
A caring colleague, attentive leader and outstanding archaeologist, Richard was passionate about inspiring the next generation of archaeologists.
There will be many people over the years who have spent time with Richard and have valued memories of his humour and kindness. To those who worked closely with him, he will be forever remembered fondly as a mentor and friend.
Richard will be greatly missed and always cherished by all of us at Wessex Archaeology.
