Duncan Bennett

As Head of Data and Systems, my role is to lead and guide development and implementation of digital systems, develop and implement data strategy and governance, and support co-ordination and delivery of all of those things across the organisation. 

Having spent over a decade in technology roles, working in and with multiple organisations across varied industries, from back to front end, with experience in software development, team, supplier and system management, technical support and systems administration,  I joined Wessex in 2024 to head the department leading digital innovation and providing the organisation with what it needs to succeed. 

As an ITIL practitioner, with a BA in War and Society, as well as a personal love of History and Archaeology, I’m able to combine my professional skillset and experience with a subject matter I’m fascinated and excited by on a daily basis. 

Some of my favourite work is fixing problems and creatively addressing current and future needs of the organisation, bringing together seemingly disparate disciplines or teams, understanding their requirements and creating something that helps all parties. Nothing is more satisfying to me than walking past someone’s desk, a trench, or a finds table, and seeing the digital tools and data we’ve carefully put together make a real difference in not only an individual’s work, but the generations to follow who will benefit from accurate recording and transmission of our shared heritage.
