Expertise

Post-Excavation

In my role as an Artefacts Specialist, I support the research team in identifying objects and contributing to reports.

My main interest is in medieval and later artefacts, with a particular focus on pottery.  In 2009 I received the Dorset Archaeological Award for my undergraduate degree, which was on the workings of Verwood-type pottery manufactories in East Dorset and West Hampshire. In 2016 I returned to Bournemouth University to continue my studies of the same industry, achieving my PhD in 2023.

In my current role, I work within the research and post-excavation team, based in Salisbury. I identify, quantify and describe a range of different artefact types. My work forms a small part of the collaborative effort that repeatedly brings archaeological projects to a successful conclusion, providing insights about how people lived in the past and making the results more widely accessible.

When not working, I often visit historical monuments or helping local archaeological groups.
