Expertise

Trustee

I joined Wessex Archaeology as a Trustee and Chair of the Finance Risk and Audit Committee in 2026, bringing my wide business experience and financial expertise to support the leadership team through the main Board. I am also a member of the People and Remuneration committee.

As a qualified accountant, much of my career has been in senior financial leadership and, as I have held both Chief Executive and Chief Financial Officer roles, I bring considerable experience across all aspects of business strategy and operations.

I have always been interested in science, and the origins of humanity and the Earth, which led me to completing a degree in Geology at Imperial College, London. However, I followed accountancy as a profession, training initially as a Chartered Accountant within the audit practice of Deloitte.  After qualifying, I moved into industry, and in a career spanning over 30 years, I progressed through several senior financial roles, each with increasing responsibility and complexity, ultimately becoming Chief Financial Officer and then Chief Executive of McColl’s PLC, formerly a listed community-based convenience store retailer.

I have significant leadership experience in multi-site, people-based businesses, together with expertise in financial management and reporting, corporate finance, technical accounting, commercial contracts, human resources and business operations. Having served as a Director and a Trustee previously, including on a PLC Board and with a national charity, I also have good knowledge of corporate governance.

I have spent many years serving the local shopping needs of neighbourhoods across the UK, so I am particularly interested in how we can engage the local community with our projects and demonstrate the benefits of our valuable work.
