Bringing together leading minds and practitioners in the sector, Wessex Archaeology is a trusted archaeology and heritage service provider and educational charity. From our network of international offices, we work in partnership with our clients to deliver sustainable solutions to manage the historic environment - above ground, below ground and underwater. We are committed to our social impact. This means using the knowledge and connections we make through our commercial activities as a catalyst to engage the communities in which we work.

This is a defining opportunity for an inclusive and strategic leader to help shape an organisation with both commercial strength and deep social purpose. As Chair, you will ensure high‑quality governance, nurture an effective and collaborative Board, and act as a trusted partner and critical friend to the Chief Executive.

Candidates will bring strategic leadership experience to the role, an understanding of charity governance, commerciality, and a passion for archaeology, heritage, and culture. The ideal candidate will have a style that encourages consensus, collaboration and ambition, as well as the ability to analyse and review complex issues and weigh up conflicting opinions.

In addition, the candidate will have the ability to act as an ambassador and champion for Wessex Archaeology, with a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, the highest standards of integrity and honesty, and a commitment to the Nolan Principles of Public Life.
