Wessex Archaeology’s built heritage team has an extensive track record in carrying out historic building recording across the country on buildings and structures as diverse as Second World War pillboxes and 11th century cathedrals. This work may form part of a planning condition or be part of a wider programme of mitigation.

Historic building recording takes place when a historic building, either statutorily listed or unlisted, is to be altered, extended or demolished. A planning condition is often set which requires the building to be recorded. The level of detail required for the record is usually decided by the Conservation Officer or Archaeological Advisor to the planning authority. Our team will work with clients and with the statutory authorities, providing expertise to ensure the best outcome for all sides.
