Karen Nichols

I have over 35 years experience in archaeological illustration working within the commercial sector. As Studio Manager at Wessex Archaeology, I lead a large team of illustrators and creatives across our regional offices. I am also responsible for maintaining the high quality of all Wessex Archaeology's visual outputs.

Originally trained as a traditional Illustrator, my skills range from Artefact and Publication Illustration to Design and Typesetting books. I have also created a range of reconstructions from digital paintings to full CGI visualisations. 

Under my leadership The Studio expanded the Heritage Interpretation services we offer to include planning and creating products such as: Audio Visual Content, Photogrammetry, Reconstruction & Visualisation, Animation, Virtual Reality, Comic Books & Graphic Novels, and APP Development. We also work closely with the engagement team to create educational and teaching resources. 

As well as being the Studio Manager, I am a website administrator and an active member of our web and social media team, who promote the work of Wessex Archaeology through a variety of social media outlets.

I am passionate about sharing discoveries and archaeological stories with the public. I am motivated by my desire to develop new innovative and accessible ways to visually present archaeological results.
